A news ntwork last week reported that General Motors has reclaimed the crown of the world's largest automaker. The american based company outsold its rival Toyota in the first six months of 2011, thanks largely to the earthquake and tsunami which caused the japanes manufacturer's production shortages. GM sold a total of 4.536 million units worldwide through June 30, Volkswagen sold 4.13 million vehicles, while Toyota numbers fell to 4.13 million units a 23 percent drop for the prius manufacturer.
Toyota has issued a statement saying it plans to institute an aggressive production recovery period during September, a month ahead of schedule, to help stablise demand and has last month stated that the no1 title means nothing. These massive efforts might not be enough to put the Japanese automaker ahead of Volkswagen through the remainder of 2011.
